Sure there were a couple weekends here or there where clans would pull high and compete (Foe, Eop, Fi each have their turns) however the momentum from the rivalry vs Epidemic was huge, alongside the 50~ core members who were just completely locked in as a unit in f2p. The discussion is about P2P, in which Apex are 22-1 this year in preps. MM was not even close to steamrolling every fight it was in to the same effect- I recall HF being called numerous times (still deny in 2018?). It would be impossible for any clan to do so in F2P, which has a skill-cap of a 12 year old monkey, and being out-opted by >15 demolishes your chances of winning (still possible, but let's be realistic).
