Balatro, the Poker-Inspired Roguelike, Arrives on Mobile This Month

Publisher Playstack has announced that Balatro will be released for mobile devices later this month. Developed by a single person, this poker-inspired roguelike is already available on current and last-gen consoles, as well as PC and Mac. With its mobile launch, even more players will be able to experience this highly addictive game that has become a sensation in 2024.

Balatro is a deck-building game that follows poker rules but introduces its own unique roguelike elements. Since its initial release on February 20, the game has sold over 2 million units, receiving widespread praise and becoming one of the top-rated games of the year. Developer LocalThunk aims to sustain the game's success with continued updates and expansions.

Playstack confirmed that Balatro will launch on September 26 on Google Play and the App Store for $9.99. Additionally, the game will be available through Apple Arcade and will feature remastered controls specifically designed for touchscreen devices. A quirky, psychedelic trailer showcases Jimbo, the joker who narrates the game, teasing that Balatro’s arrival on mobile will likely lead to a drop in productivity—an appropriate warning, given the game’s addictive replay value.

Beyond expanding to new platforms, Balatro's developer continues to fine-tune its mechanics while collaborating with other franchises. During last month’s Nintendo Direct, the game announced several cosmetic partnerships, including card deck designs themed after The Witcher 3, featuring Geralt, Yennefer, and Dandelion. Other collaborations with Among Us, Dave the Diver, and Vampire Survivors are also in the works, with more cosmetic packs planned for the future.

Despite its widespread popularity, some potential players have hesitated to try Balatro due to unfamiliarity with poker rules.
