Paragraph 1: Yes and No. I think there are some great leadership groups and some cancerous regimes. For the community as a whole to grow it matters more that the members are not recycled rather than the leaders. Realistically some new 2k17 clanner would not be able to create his own clan and rise to the top. The years (in some cases decades) old infrastructure of existing clans are important.
I would note that currently within this community there is a unwritten rule of momentum that if you lose anything your clan is instantly in a slump or something. Back in the day, clans would have a handful of fullouts EACH year and even losing one of those did not carry such a giant weight. These days clans would rather get no action as they are outright petrified of losing. If the current leaders could overcome that mentality then the scene would grow overnight.
Paragraph 2: 85%. The competitiveness and idea of rivalries is what fuels a lot of what makes our community great. However, there is a fine line between a solid rivalry/good banter and outright cancer. Obviously things should never go the way of doxing, ddosing, hackings and other scummy tactics.
The more cancerous activities that happen in game tend to be ragging and the use of mains. The idea that ANY clan would want to engage in such a race to the bottom mostly just showcases how weak minded their leadership is. Who wants to be the best pure at using mains? or who wants to be the best ragger? The community as a whole would be better if we had even a shred of the honor and respect clans had back in the day for each other. Believe it or not, there was a whole era where you could get 1-2 other clans to anti-crash a wilderness full out. In this current era, members from EVERY single pure clan decided to go join EOP/FOEs rag war with random capes after their trips ended a fews back. I'm not sure that level of moral guidance will ever be recovered. In fact, it is amazing many of our community members had more self control a decade ago than they do now.
Along the fine lines of a rivalry comes getting over petty brown sticky stuff. All clans are defined by their rivalries and best wins. Foe and MM's rivalry best showcases this. Where would we be if one of them had closed in say 2009? If you kill off all of your enemies, then who is left to fight?
Paragraph 3: I completely disagree with this sentiment. This falls under the "OMG YOU PLAY RUNESCAPE IN <insert month/year>" banter bucket. Anyone who posts on this site simply cannot post "you should just all quit" and those who do are hypocritical losers lol.
For those who do care either about the game or the community at large need to be the change they wish to see. Be thoughtful about how your actions ripple throughout the community. If you are a rank, then speak up for change and improvement. If you are a member, then pressure your ranks for change and improvement. If your ranks will not stand for what you believe is right, then leave and join a clan who does. Above all else, don't just be a bundle of twigsgot troll. No one thinks you are cool because of how much you don't care. If your life sucks so much outside of this game that you need to be an tomato for someone to pay attention to you then you should probably just go grab a rope lol.
