There is no reason to step-up. Why change a good thing? The LPC scene is thriving while the HPC scene remains stagnant and boring. Who in the right mind finds hour-long crash fights filled with adamant armour a fun way to spend a Saturday afternoon? At least the LPC scene offers variety and not the same old, washed-up rivalries that have been around since God knows when. Not to mention how damn toxic the HPC scene is and how many cancerous morons there are that ruin the fun of clanning. tl;dr - If you're getting defence/prayer, you may as well become a zerker/tank.
