slushpuppy
Foreword It has been a while since I made a topic in announcement boards. During that period, there has been some ups and downs, however, I am glad to say, many positive things has happened to this site, and ultimately the clan community. We have grown exponentially from 60~ users to nearly 160 users daily. That is a 260% increase in users, and has been the highest increase this site has seen so far. This would mean we need a bigger rank team. Promotions Initially, I intended to promote a batch of moderators every 50th user daily online, e.g. I will do a promo at 100, 150,200, etc users, but due to the current circumstances, I am forced to do a single mass promotion this time. Some of you may have received a forum pm instructing you to contact me on forums or on IRC. Unfortunately, I am sad to sad that majority of the users had not taken any follow-up action after the first response. As such, you will not be promoted this time however. This does not mean you are not eligible for future promotions. And now... The promotions: Mediator -> Counselor Father Justin: You are one of the founding ranks of this site, and you have stuck with me through the highs and the lows when others bailed on me during the site's most dire period. This is your deserved reward. 0wl: Initially your contributions to the site was limited, yet over time, you have picked up the activity. You have busied yourself managing the key aspects of the LPC scene, and I hope through your nurturing, the LPCs would become the next bedrock in which the pure community can rebuild itself on, Mediator Downyz Jim I have noticed, through your replies on sharkbrew, that you are able to rationale through flame and flamebait, and not get sucked into the drama. This is one of the key aspects a Mediator must have, and I hope you prove me correct. Ivp Quode Both of you have contributed to these forums through your content, and this site has benefited greatly from them. Thank you. I also thank you again for accepting the promotion to Mediator in-spite of your a busy irl schedule. Both of you also have the wealth of experience gained from being in the pure community for an extraordinarily long time, grants you the necessary wisdom to shape this community into something we can be proud of. With these new Mediators on hand to assist me, from now on, the rules will be enforced strictly. Flaming Lets face it, the community survives on competition. Without competition, where is the motivation or incentive to succeed? With Competition, there will be rivalries. With rivalries, comes the banter & brown sticky stuff-talking when outside the clan wars/wilderness. The only way to eliminate banter and brown sticky stuff talk is to eliminate competition, and thus we may as well sit and circle jerk each other around catherby herb patch. Where's the excitement in that? I recognize the above conundrum that an admin & moderator of a pure community site faces every day, therefore, I have structured the rules such that everyone allowed to engage in banter, witty arguments. What is against the rules are posts that relies on swear words to make a point. E.g. Your clan leader is broccolied That post is not funny and it does not convince anyone that what you are saying is true. Didn't your clan leader decided to call off Saturday trip to watch porn as a clan together, and then proclaimed that they had a successful trip? See, now you are getting somewhere as, you have provided an example as to why that certain clan leader is not the best at what he is doing. Your credibility has risen and you would have certainly piqued the reader's interest on whether that statement is the truth. Another problem I note that is a recurring problem is leaking of IRL photos & IRL details. These activities are auto permanent suspension. It's neither funny nor does it help to resolve or win any disputes between clans. In my honest opinion, if you start leaking IRLs, you are simply doing it out of spite because you cannot compete in-game. You guys are playing a game, keep IRL out of the business. The Health Of The Pure Community & The Pursuit Of Success The Pure Community has taken a beating these couple of days. We were down to 4 HPCs, now 3. This is unprecedented news that has never happened to the pure community. If left unchecked, it could spell the doom for us all. On the positive note, the growing community are the MPC/LPCs. I strongly urge clan leaders of the MPCs/LPCs to avoid practices that resulted in the current situation the HPCs has placed themselves in, in my opinion, the few major factors are: Lack of F2P on this game Closure of multiple clans into 1 super clan That same super clan destroying any growing clan Hackings *We all had seen what happened earlier this year in the HPC scene. Multiple clans closing into Fatality, Fatality dominates the Pure Community initially, destroyed every growing clan until we are down to 3 HPCs, and what was the result of that? I can probably say for a fact that Fatality is #1, but #1 out of 3 clans in their bracket? They have destroyed everything, and themselves too. The crux of the matter is, members join your clan because it somehow appeals to them. If you are going to close your clan into another clan, why bother creating your clan in the first place? Hackings: you have a certain character from a certain clan going around hacking boards, leaking databases. At the end, what have you achieved? You part of the reason the community died. Gone are the days when newbies could make a clan. Instead people must now invest in expensive high tech security to ensure their forums make it past 2 weeks. This is an obstacle that inhibits new blood from entering the scene.Ultimately, these sort of problems cannot be prevented by sharkbrew or her staff. We cannot be involved in inter-clan drama to preserve our neutrality. These problems need to be solved by clan leaders or clan members pressuring the clan leaders. In this growing MPC/LPC community, there always needs to be a balance for things to remain fun. I pray that clan ranks this time make decisions more sensibly to avoid another similar situation in the future * I am not against FI for what had happened, however what they had done previously should be a lesson, and should not be repeated in the future Summary The responsibility of the ranks on this site is to ensure the ground rules are followed. We are here to ensure competition on these boards remain healthy. I urge everyone to read the rules again to avoid playing foul of the ban hammer. http://www.sharkbrew.com/community/index.php?/topic/1078-the-ground-rules-moderation-guidelines/ Stay tune later this week for my site goals & projection, the revision of the Media & GFX | VIP, and the introduction of the exp tracker, implementation of the forum wallet system for the paid apps section

Chesty Puller
This topic could have used a little more detail but I enjoyed the sharkbait video and music. You are right, in essence there is nothing Sharkbrew can do herself to imporve the community but can only provide a neutral grounds to where clans can meet and converse with each other. Topics seem to only be topics and there must be more affirmative action if we are ever going to see this community grow. Clans aren't going to change just because you asked them to and hackers will definitely not stop because you asked them to LOL. But your hosting and clan tracker app has a lot of potential. Keep making apps that make it easier for clans to lead successful trips and events. I really like that idea. Give everybody the same tools every other clan has. This will create fair competition and lessen the chance of a clan achieving monopoly. We can start with that. Fair competition promotes growth and growth makes me happy
