Boxing is also about showmanship and giving a good fight because ultimately it is the viewers who are paying for your time. Mayweather's extreme defensive playstyle is probably very good on the street getting yourself out of trouble but in ring.. there's little to no entertainment value at all. Look at the likes of old boxing videos of mike tyson, m'ali, explosive action where people get hurt instead of hugging and kissing for the entire time absolutely milking the 12 rounds and only attacking when your opponent is tired.. I am more than confident mayweather could do the above as well, but he plays it way too safe, thus making his fights boring af.
